PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's basketball team fell 63–53 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday at Manning & Napier Varsity Gym, closing out the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.
The Cardinals dropped to 1–5 on the season despite a strong start and a game-high 18 points from Presleigh Brunner, who was named to the All-Tournament team by Mark's Pizzeria for her performance over the weekend.
How it Happened
Fisher led 16–8 after the first quarter and pushed the margin to as many as 15 early in the second. Rensselaer slowly chipped away, cutting the deficit to 29–21 at halftime before outscoring Fisher 27–10 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Turnovers proved costly, as Fisher committed 24 giveaways, leading to 17 points the other way. The Cardinals had seven turnovers in the final quarter.
Brunner scored 12 of her 18 points in the first half while shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Junior forward Danielle Seamon scored a career-high 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while senior guards Julia Perales and Hannah Ferguson each added six points. Seamon and Perales both knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.
