FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Two unanswered goals in the second period lifted Chatham University to a 4-2 victory over the St. John Fisher men's ice hockey team on Saturday afternoon at the Rochester Ice Center.
The Cardinals dropped to 9-9-0 overall (3-7-0 UCHC) with the loss. Winners of their last seven games, Chatham improved to 15-2-0 overall (6-2-0 UCHC).
How It Happened
Chatham's Michael Roby opened the scoring at the 11:22 mark in the first period, scoring his first of two goals in the contest on assists from Nicholas Babbie and Kowin Belsterling. The Cardinals evened the score early in a rugged second period, which featured five goals and nine total penalties. Junior forward Leyton Pettypiece recorded that tying tally, finding the back of the net for the third time this season with help from freshman forward Sam Ciappa and freshman defender Lucas Di Chiara.
Roby scored his second goal of the game a few minutes later on the power play to put Chatham back in front, but Fisher answered again as freshman forward Jonathan Sonedecker netted his fourth goal of the year to make it 2-2. Di Chiara tallied his second assist of the contest on the play.
The tie lasted about 30 seconds, though, as Chatham's Jake LaRusso gave the Cougars the lead for good at 12:50 on assists from Tyler Samodral and Camden Davis. Belsterling added the game's final tally with less than two minutes remaining in the period.
