ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team opened the 2025 season by splitting a pair of matches in the Bomber Invitational on Friday, falling in four sets to host Ithaca before sweeping the University of Rochester.

The Cardinals scored four of the last five points in the first set to secure a 25-23 victory. Freshman Kalyna Dannenberg led Fisher in the opening frame, slamming five kills.

Fisher trailed by as many as eight in the middle of the second set before rallying, using a 12-4 run to tie the Bombers at 22. The teams traded points before IC secured a 25-23 win with back-to-back kills.

The Bombers got off to a 13-6 lead and kept their foot on the gas en route to a 25-14 victory in set No. 3.

The Cardinals had Ithaca on the ropes, needing just one more point to secure the fourth set, but Ithaca ripped off four consecutive points to pull off a 27-25 win to end the match. The Cardinals and Bombers each held leads of at least four points in the set, with Fisher's largest lead being five (13-6).

Junior Kaylene Noble slammed a team-high 12 kills while hitting .250. Dannenberg finished the match with 11 kills.

Senior Ana Gutman amassed seven kills and hit .400. She also led the Cardinals with four total blocks.

Senior setter Reilly Morrow had 31 assists.

Senior libero Kiera Hartpence tallied 16 digs.

The Cardinals and Yellowjackets traded slim leads throughout the first set. Fisher finished off a 25-23 victory behind two kills from sophomore Lydia Fraser and one from Noble.

In the second set, the Cardinals responded to an 8-3 Rochester start with a 7-0 run to take a two-point lead. Noble had two kills and Fraser had two service aces during that stretch.

The hot hand all match, Noble slammed two kills at the end of the second set as Fisher turned a 24-23 deficit into a 26-24 win.

The Cardinals pulled out another nail-biter in the third set, once again prevailing 26-24. After Rochester ripped off five straight points to erase a 24-19 deficit, Morrow and Noble recorded kills to complete the sweep for the Cardinals.

Noble led the Cardinals with 14 kills while hitting .414. She also had a pair of service aces.

Fraser and Dannenberg each slammed seven kills; Gutman had five and registered a .444 hitting percentage.
