PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team posted one of the highest grade-point averages in the country during the 2024-25 academic year, earning a spot on the Division III Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll, which the organization announced in full on Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals' 3.838 GPA marked the third highest in Division III and the ninth highest among teams in all three NCAA divisions. Colorado College (3.864) had the top GPA in DIII, and Division II St. Cloud State (3.892) had the best mark in all of the NCAA
This marked the 30th academic year in which the WBCA compiled grade-point averages for its Top-25 Team honor rolls. The organization honored 119 teams across the NCAA, NAIA and two-year colleges in this year's rankings.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
The Cardinals, led by head coach Sarah Cartmill, had a 3.78 team GPA during the fall semester and a 3.89 in the spring semester. They had 23 Empire 8 Conference President's List selections (including spring and fall) and four 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections.
Additionally, the team had eight players inducted into Fisher's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma class in April 2025 as part of NCAA Division III Week. The university was accepted into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the New York Beta Eta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ) in March 2025.
The Cardinals went 19-8 overall (13-3 E8 regular season) in 2024-25, Cartmill's first season in charge of the program. They reached the semifinals in the conference tournament.
