New Paltz Tops Men's Volleyball In Five Sets In UVC Tournament

NEW YORK – The No. 5-seeded SUNY New Paltz Hawks (14-13) came from behind to beat the No. 4-seeded St. John Fisher men's volleyball team (24-9) in five sets in the opening round of the United Volleyball Conference Tournament on Friday night at host NYU's John A. Paulson Center. 

How It Happened 

  • SUNY New Paltz won the first set 25-20 before the Cardinals took the next two, 25-22 and 29-27. The Hawks evened the match with a 26-24 victory in the fourth and won it with a 15-8 victory in the fifth frame. 

Match Notes

  • Junior Gabe La Robardiere slammed a career-high 18 kills while hitting .294. He also matched his season high with four total blocks. 

  • Sophomore Sonepith Keoviengsamay matched his career high with 15 kills and hit .250. 

  • Senior Ian Rauh contributed 10 kills, two service aces and two total blocks. 

  • Senior setter Gavin Newman amassed a career-high 53 assists.

The Cardinals will hope to hear their name called during the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Selection Show on Monday.
