Softball Falls To No. 17 Pfeiffer, Emory On Saturday

ATLANTA – The No. 25 St. John Fisher softball team finished its Georgia spring break trip with an 8-0 loss to No. 17 Pfeiffer and a 1-0 loss to Emory on Saturday in the Emory Eagles Invite.

Game 1: St. John Fisher 0, No. 17 Pfeiffer 8 (five innings)

Pfeiffer pitcher Emma Bullin held the Cardinals to two hits and went the distance in an 8-0, five-inning victory in the first game of the day at Cooper Field.

Bullin struck out two and didn't walk any batters. The Cardinals had five total base runners in the game.

The Falcons scored one run in the first inning, another in the third and put up a crooked number to break the game open in the fourth. Alyssa Broaddus, who hit a solo homer in the third inning, doubled home a run to make it 3-0 before Kenzi Lyall drove in a pair with a double of her own to extend Pfeiffer's lead to five. Gracie Griffin capped the four-run inning, which Fisher aided with a fielding error, with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Falcons added two more runs in the fifth, as Jaci Cook plated one with a ground out to first base, and Broaddus drove in her third run of the game with a double to right center.

Seniors Amalia DeMartino and Tori LoPresto had the lone hits for the Cardinals.

Molly Kuhn started for the Cardinals and worked four innings, allowing six runs, four of them earned, on nine hits and two walks. She struck out two batters.

Game 2: St. John Fisher 0, Emory 1

The Cardinals' offense was kept quiet again in a 1-0 loss to Emory to finish the day.

Emory scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ashley Chu plated Shivani Nangia with a single up the middle.

Senior Cassidy Evanetski pitched all six innings and struck out five. Emory had five hits and drew three walks.

Mackenzie Duford stared for Emory and earned credit for the win. She struck out seven batters while pitching 6.1 innings.
