ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University softball team (5-7) was swept in a twin bill against the University of Rochester on Wednesday at Southside Field.
Game 1: Rochester 6, St. John Fisher 0
The Yellowjackets struck for two runs in the third inning on Bailey Nicholoff's two-run home run to right center field. They added one in the fourth, one in the fifth and put up another crooked number in the sixth on a two-run blast by Julianna Lyons.
Rochester pitcher Molly Broccolo went the distance for the complete-game shutout. She allowed five hits, walked just one batter and struck out four.
Game 2: Rochester 6, St. John Fisher 2
Senior infielder Amalia DeMartino hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot, to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. They kept that lead until the third, when Riley Laygo hit a solo home run and Molly Mason ripped a three-run homer to give Rochester a 4-2 lead.
Nicholoff hit her second two-run home run of the day to extend the Yellowjackets' lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
Broccolo was the winning pitcher again, as she shut the Cardinals out in 3.1 innings of relief. She allowed one hit and struck out two batters.
Senior Cassidy Evanetski led the Cardinals with a pair of hits. Fisher finished with seven for the ballgame.
