Baseball Uses Long Ball to Power Past Delaware Valley

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The St. John Fisher baseball team used three home runs and strong pitching to defeat Delaware Valley 7-1 on Saturday at Lake Myrtle Park. The Cardinals improved to 5-5 on the season, while Delaware Valley fell to 1-6.

How It Happened

Fisher struck first in the bottom of the third, as Benjamin Huckans launched a solo home run to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, Jordan Perry crushed a two-run home run to extend the lead to 3-0.

Delaware Valley got on the board in the seventh, capitalizing on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Fisher responded in the bottom half of the inning. Huckans walked, advanced to third on a single from Mario Cubello and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Perry to make it 4-1.

The Cardinals put the game out of reach in the eighth, as Jack Griffin led off the inning with a solo home run, and Andrew Roman doubled before scoring on a Jimmy McCardle RBI double, sealing the 7-1 victory.
