SANFORD, Fla. – The St. John Fisher baseball team put together a three-run fifth inning but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 8-4 to Allegheny on Friday at Sanford Stadium. The Cardinals dropped to 4-5 on the season, while Allegheny improved to 4-4.
How It Happened
Both teams went scoreless in the first before Fisher took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jackson Frey singled, stole second and came around to score on an error. Allegheny answered quickly, tying the game in the bottom half of the inning before adding two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
Fisher responded in the top of the fifth, as Jordan Perry walked, Mario Cubello singled and Andrew Roman followed with a base hit to load the bases. Jack Griffin then drove in two with a single up the middle, and Jake Crantz followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Allegheny tacked on a run in the seventh and another in the eighth on a passed ball to push the lead to 8-4. Fisher had runners on in the late innings but couldn't break through.
