Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep Of Elmira

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher baseball team completed a three-game weekend sweep of Elmira College with a 10-1 thumping of the Soaring Eagles on Sunday at Holding Point Field. The Cardinals pulled back to .500 overall (8-8) and improved to 3-0 in Empire 8 Conference play.

How It Happened

Ryan Vanderlip scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

A pair of Elmira fielding errors led to Fisher runs in the third and fourth innings and made the score 5-1. Jimmy McCardle doubled home Jake Crantz, and Scott Sleurs scored on an error to give the Cardinals a 7-1 lead in the fifth inning.

Mario Cubello, Austin Droge and Jack Griffin singled home runs in the seventh to put Fisher ahead by nine runs, 10-1.

Pitcher Patrick McGuire, who struck out six batters over four innings, earned credit for the victory. He allowed one run (unearned) on just two hits and two walks.
