No. 22 Women's Lacrosse Tops No. 14 Ithaca, Improves To 6-0 For First Time Since 2016

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 22 St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team continued its unbeaten start with a 15-10 win over No. 14 Ithaca College on Saturday at Growney Stadium. 

The Cardinals improved to 6-0 for the first time since 2016, when they began the season 7-0 en route to a 17-4 overall record and an NCAA Division III Sweet 16 appearance. Ithaca, which beat Fisher 13-11 last March, fell to 4-2. 

How It Happened

  • Fisher jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the first quarter behind goals from sophomore Ellie Leisen (2) and seniors Emma Biel, Sydney Carpenter, Hanna Kumpf and Mary Fiorentino. The Cardinals took a 10-5 lead into halftime after Leisen, Biel and Kumpf added tallies in the second quarter.
  • The Cardinals put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Bombers 4-1 to take a 14-6 lead on goals from Carpenter (2), Kumpf and senior Farrah Zalla scored. 
  • Fiorentino added one more goal for the Cardinals at the end of the fourth quarter to make it 15-10.

Game Notes

  • Leisen tied her career high with four goals and added an assist as part of a five-point day. She has tallied five or more points in two games this season. 

  • Carpenter had three goals and two assists as part of her 14th straight regular season game with three or more points. 

  • Kumpf recorded her fourth game with three or more goals this season. 

  • Biel and Fiorentino each scored twice, while Zalla added one goal.

  • Junior defender Maddie Lowney controlled a team-high seven draws and caused two turnovers. Kumpf won three draw controls. 

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylee Gadol made six saves, playing the full 60 minutes.

  • Fisher converted 5-of-6 free-position attempts and went 19-of-21 on clearing attempts.

  • This marked the 14th straight regular-season game with a Cardinal netting three or more goals.
