Late Push Not Enough as Men's Lacrosse Falls To No. 18 SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Despite a strong third-quarter surge and a six-point outing from senior Brady Mason, the St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team fell 16-12 to No. 18 Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Grady Field.

With the loss, Fisher moved to 4-4 on the season. Cortland, which has won seven games in a row after losing its season opener to No. 6 RPI, improved to 7-1 and beat Fisher for the third straight year.

How It Happened

  • It was a back-and-forth first quarter, with fifth-year senior Jordan Leuze, freshman JP Revitte and Mason each scoring for Fisher to keep pace with the Red Dragons.

  • Cortland led 4-3 after one and pulled away in the second, using a six-goal frame to take a 10-6 lead into halftime.

  • Fisher battled back with its best stretch of the day in the third quarter. Mason scored twice, while senior Braeden McNeill, Revitte and Leuze also found the back of the net as the Cardinals outscored Cortland 5-2 to close the gap to 12-11 entering the fourth.
