RIT Tops Baseball To Complete Weekend Sweep

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher baseball team fell to RIT 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. The Cardinals dropped to 5-7 on the season, while RIT improved to 11-2.

How It Happened
  • RIT jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run home run. Fisher responded in the top of the second, as Domenic Guccia singled and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Brendan Huckans, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • The Tigers added a solo homer in the second to make it 3-1, but Fisher answered in the third, when Jack Griffin singled home Jordan Perry, bringing the Cardinals within 3-2.
  • After a RIT RBI double in the fifth extended the lead to 4-2, the game remained close until the seventh, when RIT plated three runs on a sacrifice fly and a two-run double to make it 7-2.
  • Fisher got one back in the eighth, as Griffin reached on a passed ball after a strikeout, later scoring on a fielder's choice from Jake Crantz. However, RIT put the game away in the bottom half with four more runs, including another three-run homer.
Game Notes
  • Griffin finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

  • Guccia went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

  • Crantz and Huckans each recorded an RBI.

  • Ryan Vanderlip and Jordan Perry each stole a base.

  • Ethan Fulton (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits over five innings while striking out three.

  • Luke Horton, Anthony Lang, and Nathan Benjamin combined for four innings of relief, with Benjamin allowing four runs in the eighth.

  • RIT out-hit Fisher 12-8 and took advantage of seven walks and a hit-by-pitch.
