PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Graduate senior Griffin Stella tied his career high with 16 kills to lead the No. 12 St. John Fisher men's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over No. 14 Hobart on Friday night at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
The Cardinals, 18-6 overall, improved to 3-1 in United Volleyball Conference play with the victory, their third straight over the Statesmen. Hobart fell to 18-6 overall and 1-4 in the UVC with its fourth consecutive conference loss.
How It Happened

The Cardinals won the first set 25-17 and the second 25-19. They dropped the third set 25-19 before finishing the match victory with a 27-25 win in the fourth set.

The Cardinals took control of the first set with a four-point run to take a 14-6 lead. Senior Ian Rauh had two service aces in that stretch.

Fisher and Hobart went back and forth for most of the second set. The Cardinals, behind three kills from Sonepith Keoviengsamay, took control late, using a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead.

The Cardinals finished off the 25-19 second-set win with another 5-1 run. Freshman Coleton Welter had both of his kills in that stretch.

Hobart controlled the third set from start to finish, hitting .467 with 16 kills. Andrew Kim had seven of his 22 total kills in that set.

The Cardinals hit .486 and amassed 18 kills in the fourth set, during which they overcame a three-point deficit (16-13). Rauh led the Cardinals with six kills in that frame, while Stella had five.
