Women's Basketball Has 11-Game Winning Streak Snapped At Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo snapped the St. John Fisher women's basketball team's 11-game winning streak on Friday night with a 54-41 victory over the Cardinals at Carol Schrader Gymnasium. 

The Cardinals (16-5 overall, 11-1 Empire 8) suffered their first conference loss of the season. Geneseo (16-5, 11-1) won its third straight game and moved to second place in the E8 standings with just more than a week remaining in the regular season.

How It Happened 

  • The Cardinals had their worst offensive performance of the season, setting season lows in points (41) and overall shooting percentage (15-56, 26.8%). They shot 15.8% from three (3 of 19), their second-worst mark of the season. 

  • Geneseo outscored the Cardinals by 28 in the paint, 38-10. 

  • The Knights outscored the Cardinals 16-6 in the second quarter and took a 26-18 lead into halftime. They stayed ahead the rest of the way and led by a game-high 15 points at various points in the second half.

Game Notes

  • Junior guard Presleigh Brunner, the only Fisher player to score in double figures in the contest, led the Cardinals with 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting (2 of 2 from three). She also recorded four rebounds, an assist and a steal. 

  • Sophomore forward Danielle Seamon, who made her first collegiate start, grabbed a season-high nine rebounds. 

  • Geneseo's Kristin Suydam scored a game-high 17 points while shooting 8 of 15 overall (1 of 2 from three). Grace Galgano had 13 points and shot 6 of 12 overall.
