PITTSFORD, N.Y. – For the second straight season, St. John Fisher senior guard Sidney Tomasso has been named Empire 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Year, conference officials announced on Thursday.
Tomasso, also an All-Empire 8 first-team selection for a third straight season, is the first two-time E8 Player of the Year in St. John Fisher women's basketball history. She's one of six players in conference history to earn the award multiple times.
Senior guard Katie Moravec also garnered 2024-25 first-team All-Empire 8 recognition. It marks the second time she's earned all-conference honors in her collegiate career.
Tomasso this season led the Empire 8 in scoring (19.2 points per game) and finished second in rebounding (9.3 rebounds per game), free-throw percentage (86.5%) and 3-point shooting percentage (35.3%). Nationally, she ranks 22nd in free-throw percentage, 24th in points per game and 40th in rebounds.
From Waverly, New York, Tomasso also led the Empire 8 with 12 double-doubles, a figure that currently ranks 26th nationally. She scored 20 or more points in 12 games and at least 15 in 22 games.
Tomasso had the best performance of her collegiate career in a 70-67 victory over SUNY Brockport on Feb. 8, as she scored 32 points and collected 17 rebounds. Her 32 points marked the ninth-most in a single game in St. John Fisher history, while her 17 boards marked the sixth-most by a Fisher player in a game.
Tomasso, one of the best players in program history, has her name stamped all over Fisher's record book. She's third all-time in free throw percentage, fourth in points scored, fifth in 3-pointers made and fifth in total field goals made.
Moravec, a first-time All-E8 first-team selection, finished at or near the top of the team in numerous statistical categories. She led Fisher in assists (112) and steals (50) and ranked second in scoring (16.6 points per game) and rebounding (5.8 rebounds per game).
Moravec tallied four or more assists in 17 of the Cardinals' 25 games, including a career-high eight twice. She recorded four or more steals in five contests.
