HAMBURG, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team came up just short in a 75–73 overtime loss to Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon at the Hawks Against Hunger event. Fisher moves to 1–1 on the season.
How It Happened
Fisher put together an impressive opening 20 minutes, shooting 47 percent from the field and controlling the glass while building a 43–29 halftime lead. The Cardinals extended the margin early in the second half before Waynesburg responded with a sustained push, highlighted by a 10–0 run midway through the period that swung momentum.
Waynesburg continued to chip away and eventually forced overtime after closing regulation on a late scoring sequence. In the extra session, they struck first and held Fisher without a field goal for the opening two minutes. The Cardinals continued to get stops and reach the line, staying within one possession, but multiple late looks to tie or take the lead did not fall.
