ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior guard Jonathan McCaffery scored 15 points to lead the St. John Fisher men's basketball team to a 61-52 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout at Nazareth University's Kidera Gymnasium.
The Cardinals improved to 3-4 on the season with the victory, while St. Lawrence dropped to 3-3.
McCaffery finished 5-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from the foul line. Sophomore guard Andrew Violante, who came off the bench, added 10 points while shooting 3-of-5 overall (1-of-2 from three) and 3-of-5 from the foul line. Fellow sophomore guards Jack Janes and Alex Hayes each scored nine points.
How It Happened
Fisher led 31–25 at halftime behind five first-half three-pointers and 11 assists on 12 made field goals. Hayes drilled a pair of triples, while Janes and seniors Max Schneider and Christian Daley all sank one.
The Cardinals opened the second half with a 4–0 run and maintained control throughout, never trailing in the final 20 minutes. St. Lawrence closed the gap to three with under five minutes remaining, but Fisher responded with free throws and paint scoring to pull away late.
McCaffrey and Violante both scored eight points in the second half, while Janes and sophomore forward Maximus Michalski each had four.
