PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team has earned a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association/Taraflex Division III Top-25 poll for the first time in program history.
The Cardinals, who had been receiving votes since September, cracked this week's poll at No. 24. They face the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Johns Hopkins University's Goldfarb Gymnasium in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Cardinals (29-1), winners of 29 consecutive matches, claimed their sixth Empire 8 title and punched their ticket to their seventh NCAA Tournament with a sweep of Hartwick (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) in the conference championship game this past Saturday.
Fisher owns the second-longest active winning streak in all three NCAA Divisions behind East Texas Baptist (31 matches) entering the national tournament. The Cardinals own a 38-2 mark in their last 40 matches dating back to the middle of last season.
