ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a four-set victory over Alfred University on Saturday afternoon, extending its winning streak to 26 matches.
The Cardinals (26-1, 11-0 Empire 8) matched the program record for wins in a season during the rally scoring era (2001-present) with the victory, their first non-sweep since a four-set win over Hamilton on Sept. 13.
Junior outside hitter Kaylene Noble led the Cardinals with 16 kills while hitting .344. Sophomore outside hitter Lydia Fraser slammed 14 kills and aced two serves, tying Phoebe Kane for ninth on Fisher's single-season top-10 list for service aces.
How It Happened
The Cardinals won the first set 25-20 and the second 25-22 before the Saxons took the third 25-21, halting Fisher's sweep streak at 17 matches.
Fisher responded to the challenge in the fourth set with a dominant 25-12 victory. The Cardinals had six service aces in the decisive frame, with Fraser and freshman outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg each accounting for two.
