Women's Soccer Records Second Win Over Nazareth Since 2000 To End Regular Season

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Emily Woolingham scored twice as the St. John Fisher women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 victory over East Avenue rival Nazareth on Wednesday at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The Cardinals, 10-4-2 overall and 9-1-1 in Empire 8 Conference play, won their fourth straight game and recorded just their second win over Nazareth (8-6-3, 6-3-2 Empire 8) since 2000 with the victory.

Fisher has the No. 2 seed for the E8 Tournament and will host No. 7-seeded Houghton (11-4-3, 5-4-2 Empire 8) on Saturday. A start time will be announced on Thursday.

How It Happened

Woolingham opened the scoring in the first half at the 30:45 mark with an unassisted tally and knocked in her second goal of the game just over 12 minutes into the second half with an assist from junior midfielder Francesca Logrippo on a corner kick.

Nazareth cut its deficit in half on Tatum Overton's unassisted goal about four minutes later, but Fisher's defense held strong the rest of the way. Freshman goalkeeper Isabella Ayers made two of her career-high 10 total saves in the final 10 minutes of action.

Game Notes

  • Woolingham recorded her ninth and 10th goals of the season, becoming the first Fisher player to reach double-digit goals since Carli Kovarik in 2021.

  • Woolingham pushed her season point total to 27, passing Lori Hargather (26, 1980) and Colleen Mullaley (26, 2001) for fifth on Fisher's single-season points list.

  • The Cardinals' nine regular-season Empire 8 victories mark their most under head coach Molly Romano

  • Romano has now led the Cardinals to three 10-plus win seasons since taking over the program in 2019.

  • Both of Fisher's wins over Nazareth since 2000 have come under Romano.

  • Ayers became the first Fisher goalkeeper to make 10 saves in a game since teammate Avery Byrnes did so against Nazareth in 2023.
