PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team slammed 37 kills while hitting a season-high .483 in a swift sweep of Elmira College (3-20, 1-5 Empire 8) on Saturday afternoon at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
The Cardinals (21-1, 6-0 Empire 8 Conference) recorded their 21st consecutive victory and their 13th consecutive sweep. Fisher has won 13 consecutive matches against conference teams (including postseason) and owns a 30-2 overall record since a four-set loss to Nazareth on Oct. 23 of last season.
Freshman Kalyna Dannenberg and juniors Ana Gutman and Kaylene Noble all hit .500 or better (min. 10 attempts) in the match for Fisher. Dannenberg slammed nine kills while hitting .583, Gutman had eight kills and hit .636 and Noble had eight kills and hit .500.
How It Happened
Sophomore Lydia Fraser aced four serves, and Dannenberg slammed nine kills as Fisher began its thrashing of the Soaring Eagles with a 25-10 victory in the first set. The Cardinals had nine kills while hitting .333 in the frame.
The Cardinals in the second set pounded 12 kills while hitting .562 on the way to a 25-9 win. Dannenberg had five kills on five attempts, and junior libero Kiera Hartpence had three of Fisher's six service aces in the frame.
Noble had four kills and Gutman had three as the Cardinals finished off the Soaring Eagles 25-10 in the third set. Senior Marilyn Whitcavitch aced three serves.
