Women's Soccer Takes Down Houghton 4-0

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's soccer team tallied two goals in each half in a 4-0 victory over Houghton on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals improved to 7-4-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Empire 8 Conference play with the victory, their sixth in a row over the Highlanders. Houghton dipped to 8-4-2 overall and 2-4-1 in league play.

Sophomore forward Emily Woolingham scored a goal and tallied an assist as part of a three-point night. Senior forward Madelyn Wania, junior midfielder Carli Maltbie and sophomore forward Olivia Kalil each scored, while senior defender Ryann Dauksza tallied two assists.

How It Happened

The Cardinals opened the scoring nearly 14 minutes in when Wania sent a pass downfield for Woolingham and sprinted about 30 yards before receiving a centering pass and firing a rocket past Houghton goalkeeper Preslee Miller.

Fisher doubled its lead just before halftime. While battling for possession after a corner kick, Dauksza quickly tapped a pass off to her right to Kalil, who bent a shot into the back left corner of the net.

Maltbie made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, burying a penalty kick shot into the bottom right corner. Just more than a minute later, Woolingam took a long pass from Dauksza, sprinted past a pair of Houghton defenders and soon after found the back of the net for Fisher's final tally of the contest.

The Cardinals dominated possession in the game, totaling 26 shots (18 on goal) to Houghton's three attempts (two on goal).

Freshman Isabella Ayers made her first collegiate start in net for the Cardinals. She made a pair of saves in the shutout, Fisher's eighth this season.
