McPhee Scores Twice As Field Hockey Bests Utica 4-2

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Mary Kate McPhee scored a pair of goals as the St. John Fisher field hockey team took down Utica 4-2 on Wednesday night at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals improved to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in Empire 8 Conference play with the victory, their 13th in a row over Utica, which dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the E8.

How it Happened

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead on McPhee's first goal of the game just more than seven minutes in and held that edge for the rest of the half.

Utica tied the game early in the third quarter on Mia Mia Benincasa's tally, and the teams remained tied until Fisher rattled off three straight scores in less than three minutes in the fourth quarter.

McPhee scored her second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, at the 48:27 mark off an assist from sophomore Avery McLaughlin, who found the back of the net herself less than a minute later. Sophomore Sam Current scored Fisher's fourth goal about two minutes after that one.

Utica added its second tally with under nine minutes remaining.

Fisher sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Parrinello made eight saves – tied for the second most she's had in a collegiate game.

Game Notes

  • The two-goal performance marked McPhee's second of the season. She has seven goals and a team-high 22 total points on the season.

  • Current tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

  • McLaughlin has scored four times over the Cardinals' last three games.
