Baseball sweeps doubleheader with Alfred

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Alfred University Saxons on Saturday, 15-0 and 11-1.

GAME 1: Fisher 15, Alfred 0
Graduate student Brian Norsen and freshman Jackson Frey each homered as the Cardinals knocked 13 hits against Alfred pitching in the series opener. Frey also stole a bag as part of a 3-for-4, two RBI, four-run day.

Joining Frey in the three hit club was senior James Murphy, who went 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, a stolen base, a hit-by-pitch, and four runs scored. Sophomore Jake Crantz led the team in RBI, with three, while sophomore Nick Lemire had two. Sophomore Benjamin Huckans and junior Dominic Guccia also drove in a run.

On the mound, sophomore Ethan Fulton went three innings of hitless ball before being relieved by Conner Walker and then Christian O'Brien, who continued to hold the Saxons scoreless. Each of the pitchers had three strikeouts.

GAME 2: Fisher 11, Alfred 1 (7 innings)
In a run-rule shortened game, the Cardinals racked up 12 hits and took advantage of four Alfred errors to finish the day with another win. Fisher got on the board in the first and scored in all but one of the seven innings of play.

Crantz led the way, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and finishing a home run short of the cycle. Fulton, not long after finishing a start on the mound in game one, went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, and two RBI. Norsen also plated two runs, while Frey ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to activate the run rule.

Senior Patrick McGuire started the game and earned the win, going four innings while allowing two hits and an earned run, striking out two in the process. Graduate student Hunter Walsh earned the three-inning save, allowing two hits while striking out two.
