MIDDLEBURY, VT – The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team competed in the second round of the NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday, taking on no. 1 ranked Middlebury College. The Cardinals fell behind in the first-quarter and despite settling in for the remainder of the game, the team fell, 18-5, to the panthers.
Fisher was down 11-0 after one quarter of play. In the second frame,
Ellie Leisen and
Sydney Carpenter both scored to get on the board and made the score 14-2 at halftime. The Cardinals held the Panthers scoreless in the third quarter, while
Emma Biel and
Cara Landry scored to cut the deficit to 10 points. Landry added another goal in the fourth, but the team was outscored 4-1 in the frame and Fisher fell by a final score of 18-5.
Both Landry and Biel finished with two points, with Landra scoring twice and Biel tallying a goal and assist. Carpenter and Leisen were the other goal scorers for the team. The Cardinals finish the season with a 12-8 record, 6-0 in conference play and Empire 8 Conference Champions.
