Softball sweeps Clarkson in Monday matchup

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University softball team swept Clarkson University at home on Monday in a pair of run-rule shortened games. The Cardinals won game one, 9-1, before shutting out the Golden Knights in game two, 10-0.

Game 1: Fisher 9, Clarkson 1 (6 innings)

Freshman first baseman Taylor Shackleton went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI while fellow freshman Emily McManus hit her ninth home run of the season as the Cardinals run-ruled Clarkson for the team's 11th straight win. Seven of the nine starters for Fisher had at least one hit, and eight of the nine had at least one RBI. The game ended on a bases-loaded error by Clarkson in the sixth that allowed Fisher to reach the eight runs needed to trigger an early finish.

In the circle, junior Ainsley Evanetski brought a no-hitter into the sixth inning and ultimately finished with a six-inning complete game, allowing two hits and a run while striking out eight.

Game 2: Fisher 10, Clarkson 0 (5 innings)

Like the first game, Fisher's offense overwhelmed Clarkson pitching, knocking 13 hits including junior Mari Spitz's first home run of the year. The catcher finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore designated player Emma MacLachlan also plated four runs on the day, including a bases-clearing single in the third. Sophomore Madi Rose chalked up a triple.

Junior Cassidy Ormond pitched the five-inning shutout, allowing two hits while striking out six as she earned her 11th win of the season.

Fisher returns to play on Wednesday, April 24, when they head down the street to face Nazareth University. Game 1 starts at 3:00 P.M.
