Women’s Lacrosse Score 20 In Win Over Saxons

ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team hit the road on Wednesday to take on Alfred University. The Cardinals took control early and proceeded to shutout the Saxons in the final three quarters to secure a 20-1 victory, moving their record to 6-7 overall and 4-0 in Empire 8 play.
 
Fisher outscored Alfred in the first half 13-1. Kaley Griffin scored the first goal and added another pair throughout the first half for a hat-trick. Chelsea Lopata and Ellie Leisen were the only other Cardinals to score multiple goals, tallying two apiece. Emma Biel, Farrah Zalla, Hanna Kumpf, Dharma Makarowsky, Sydney Carpenter and Ava Alteri all scored a goal to go into halftime with a comfortable lead.
 
As the second half continued, the Cardinal defense allowed no goals and faced just two shots. Leisen secured her hat trick in the third quarter, and Zalla followed with her own, recording her second goal in the third and third goal in the fourth. In total, the team outshot the Saxons, 37-4 and Fisher secured 19 of the 24 draw controls.
 
Carpenter had just one goal, but had six assists to lead the team with seven points. She added 11 draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Gadol earned the win after allowing one goal and making one save in 30 minutes of action.
 
Up next for Fisher is the final home game of the regular season on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. The Cardinals will take on Nazareth University in a Battle of the Beaks.
