PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team finishes the road portion of its regular season schedule on Thursday, traveling to Houghton for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
Here's what you need to know:
Last Time Out
The Cardinals fell to Utica on Tuesday, 72-63, after the visiting Pioneers stormed back in the second half for the win. The loss snapped Fisher's five-game win streak. Fifth-year forward
Daniel Cook led the Cardinals with 21 points on the night.
Know Your Foe
Fisher is 53-1 all-time against Houghton, the only loss coming back in the 1994-95 season. Earlier this season, the Cardinals beat the Highlanders at home by a score of 84-73.
Houghton enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 6-15 and a conference mark of 4-8. They are led offensively by Jajuan Preaster, who is third in points-per-game in the Empire 8, with 19.0.
Fun Fact: Houghton was a member of the NAIA until the 2012-13 season.
Postseason Outlook
At 11-3 in conference play and 15-8 overall, the Cardinals currently sit third in the Empire 8 standings. While this means they have clinched a spot in the conference tournament, where they will be in the final standings is still to be determined. Currently behind Nazareth (13-1/16-6) and Utica (11-1/18-3), the Cardinals will likely need to win out and get some help to climb up the standings.
