Cardinals Fall At Home To Pioneers, 72-63

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were at home on Tuesday to take on Utica University at home. The two teams sit near the top of the Empire 8 and despite leading at the half, the Cardinals fell to the Pioneers, 72-63. Fisher now holds a 15-8 record and are 11-3 in conference play. They sit in third place in the E8 standings.

Fisher jumped out of the gate quickly with makes by Jack Foley, Daniel Cook and Matt Lettko helped put the team in front 15-5 in the opening seven minutes. The Pioneers settled in and cut their deficit to within four points, but scores by Brad Fowler helped stop the momentum and put the team ahead 39-29 at the half. Utica began to chip away at their deficit and with 10:51 to play, the score was back even at 49-49. The two teams began to trade baskets and runs, but it was a late 14-2 Pioneer run that downed Fisher 72-63.

Cook led the team in scoring with 21 points and collected eight rebounds with two blocks and four assists. Connor Record gathered 13 boards, while scoring nine points.

The Cardinals will head on the road on Thursday, Feb. 8 to take on Houghton University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
