PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team played their first home game of the season on Wednesday, hosting SUNY Cortland for an afternoon contest. The Cardinals fell behind early and were unable to make a comeback, falling 15-7.
Fisher fell behind 1-0 in the first, but
Brett Seaman quickly answered with a goal 30 seconds later. Cortland added another pair of goals, but Seaman again chipped in a score to cut the deficit. After one quarter of play, the Red Dragons led 4-2. The Cardinals defense allowed four unanswered scores, until
Jordan Leuze found the back of the net with 5:04 to play in the first half.
Brady Mason recorded a goal in the final minutes of the frame to make the score 8-4 going into halftime.
The Cardinals scored twice in the third quarter, with
Timmy Salit and
Sean Donaldson both finding holes in the Cortland defense. However, the opposition used a 5-0 run to take a 15-6 lead, and a lead Donaldson goal concluded the game at 15-7. Leuze finished the day with three points on one goal and two assists. Donaldson and Seaman each finished with two goals apiece.
Up next for Fisher is another home game on Saturday, March 2 when they take on St. Lawrence University. The contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
