PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Senior guard Sidney Tomasso scored a career-high 29 points as the St. John Fisher University women's basketball team (1-0) opened the 2024-25 season on Friday with a 77-64 victory over Susquehanna (0-1) in the Chatham University Tournament.
Tomasso scored 13 points in the first half and 16 in the second while shooting 9 of 21 overall, 2 of 5 from 3-point range and 9 of 9 from the foul line. She also had 10 rebounds as part of her fifth career double-double (fourth since the beginning of last season).
Senior guard Katie Moravec scored 20 points and shot 6 of 11 from the field (1 of 2 from three). She went 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Emily McLaughlin also reached double figures, scoring a career-high 17 points. The senior guard made a team-high three 3-pointers (3 of 8) and shot 4 of 9 overall.
The Cardinals, after trailing 32-30 at halftime, outscored Susquehanna by 15 (47-32) in the second half.
Fisher scored 16 points off eight Susquehanna turnovers in the contest. Tomasso and junior guard Presleigh Brunner had two steals apiece.
The victory marked the Cardinals' first under Sarah Cartmill, who became the program's head coach over the summer. Fisher faces Chatham at 2 p.m. on Saturday to conclude the tournament.
