PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team had its eight-match winning streak against crosstown rival Nazareth snapped on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to the Golden Flyers at Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
The Cardinals, who'd swept Nazareth three years in a row, dropped to 12-8 (5-2 Empire 8) with the loss. Nazareth improved to 12-8 and remained unbeaten (7-0) in the Empire 8.

The Cardinals had won five straight matches entering the contest, sweeping three of their opponents in that stretch.

Nazareth won the first set 25-23 and the second 25-15. The Cardinals avoided being swept with a 25-16 win in the third before falling 25-23 in the fourth.

Kaylene Noble (13), Ana Gutman (12) and Lydia Fraser (10) recorded double-digit kills for the Cardinals. Gutman's 12 kills marked her most in a match since she had 14 against William Smith on Sept. 14.

Gutman finished with an impressive .706 hitting percentage (12 kills on 17 attempts). She also had a team-high two blocks.

Gutman leads the Empire 8 in hitting percentage (.359).

Marilyn Whitcavitch led the Cardinals with three service aces.
