Cardinals Fall To Golden Flyers In First Meeting Of The Season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team went down the road to Nazareth University for the first installment of the Battle of the Beaks. The Cardinals were on the wrong end of this matchup, falling to the Golden Flyers, 79-66. They see their record drop to 10-7 on the year and 6-2 against conference opposition.

Fisher found themselves down 20-13 with under ten minutes to play in the first half, but a three-point play by Brad Fowler and after a free-throw make by Connor Recore, it was Fowler with another layup that cut the deficit to one point. As the game reached half-time, the Cardinals were down 33-31. As the second-half opened up, Nazareth jumped ahead by six, but Fisher answered with a jumper by Matt Lettko and three-pointers by Max Schneider and Brendan McRoy. Unfortunately, the Cardinals did not carry the momentum and the Golden Flyers pulled away down the stretch.

McRoy led the way for Fisher with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field. Schneider and Fowler were impactful off the bench, combining for 21 points, ten rebounds and three assists. Fowler added four blocks as well.

The Cardinals will have a week off before welcoming Sage College to down on Friday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym.
