PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball schedule is set for the upcoming 2023-24 season. The Cardinals finished last year with a 22-8 overall record and 14-4 conference mark on their way to a Empire 8 title. Fisher knocked off the no. 1 seed Utica University in the semi-final and no. 2 seed Nazareth University in the final game to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals won their first-round matchup against Whitworth University, 74-59 before falling to the no. 7 ranked Swarthmore College.
 
Season and Home Opener
The men's basketball team will begin their season at home on Wednesday, Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. matchup against Hobart College. The two teams are evenly matched, going 6-6 in their last 12 meetings and 3-3 in the previous six. The Statesmen got the best of Fisher last season, winning the game 88-65.
 
Mark's Pizzeria Showcase
This season the Cardinals will host the men's side of the Mark's Pizzeria Cross-Town Showcase. Fisher will host local rivals, Nazareth University, University of Rochester and RIT for a two-day, four-game event. On Nov. 16 the games will be at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and he games on Nov. 18 will be announced at a later date.
 
Long Road Stretch
After the Mark's Pizzeria Showcase, Fisher hit the road for a eight consecutive road games starting Nov. 28 and wont return home until Jan. 9. The away games will include non-conference opponents, Carnegie Mellon, Hamilton, Milliken and Rose Hulman. In addition, the Cardinals will take on Empire 8 foes in Hartwick College, Russell Sage, Alfred University and Elmira.
 
Quest To Repeat
The Empire 8 hasn't had a repeat champion since Ithaca College won back-to-back in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. The Cardinals will have eight of their last 12 games be home conference matchups. Three of the final four games will be at home against Utica, Alfred and Nazareth, all teams that finished in the top-4 of the Empire 8 standings last season.
