Men's Basketball Falls To Colgate In Road Exhibition On Saturday

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's basketball team (4-5) fell 94-50 to Division I Colgate (6-4) in an exhibition contest on Saturday afternoon at Cotterell Court.

Freshman guard Mekhi Gidney led the Cardinals with 12 points while shooting 3-of-7 overall, including 2-of-2 from deep. Sophomore forward Maximus Michalski added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Raiders shot 62.9% (39-of-62) from the field and had five players score in double figures. Ben Tweedy led the way with 23 points while shooting 9-of-11 overall and 2-of-4 from deep.

How It Happened

The Cardinals fell behind 11-0 in the first three minutes of the game but fought their way back with a 10-3 run to pull within four of the Raiders, 14-10. Gidney scored five of his points during that stretch, nailing a 3-pointer before making a pair of free throws.

St. John Fisher held its own, staying within eight to 10 points, until Colgate blew the game open later in the first half. The Raiders used a 19-8 run that lasted just under eight minutes to take an 18-point lead, 46-28, into the break.

The Raiders continued to pull away from the Cardinals in the second half, as they led by more than 20 for most of the final 20 minutes of action.
