MARIETTA, OH—The St. John Fisher University football team were on the road to begin the season and to on Marietta College. After falling behind in the first half, the Cardinals were unable to mount a comeback and fell to the Pioneers, 31-7.
The first quarter was quiet, with only one team scoring. Fisher evened the score in the second quarter with
Aaron Chase hitting
Ethan Curtis with a 45 yard pass to cap off a 6 play, 80 yard drive. The Pioneers quickly answered back, returning the ensuing kick-off 97 yards to reclaim a lead they did not relinquish. The defense forced long methodical drives to the Pioneers, with the two scoring drives taking seven and 12 plays respectively.
Chase finished the day going 10-for-23 for 170 yards a touchdown and interception.
Peyton Nolan was the main back for the Cardinals, rushing for 79 yards on 11 attempts.
Michael Escobar was a favorite target for Chase, catching five balls for 75 yards. In total, seven different Cardinals tallied a reception.
On the defensive side,
Joe Miscia finished the day with 14 total tackles including a tackle for loss.
Ryan O'Dea led the team with five solo tackles, eight total and one tackle for loss.
Up next is the Home Opener for Fisher and they will host Hilbert College. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 and kick off is set for 1 p.m.
