LA PLUME, PA – The St. John Fisher University football team were on the road on Saturday to take on Keystone College. After an impressive day on the ground, the Cardinals were able to come away with a 35-20 victory and move to 2-1 on the year.
After stopping the Giants in the opening drive, the Cardinals executed a 17 play, 88 yard drive that ended with
Peyton Nolan scoring his first touchdown of the day. In the second quarter, Keystone took the lead with a touchdown and extra point to make it 7-6. Fisher answered the next drive with a 8-play, 67 yard journey that concluded with
Aaron Chase running in a 15 yard score. At halftime Fisher maintained their lead at 14-7.
In the third-quarter, the Cardinal defense forced a turnover on downs and the offense converted on the opportunity. Nolan rushed for 23 yards on the drive and scored his second touchdown of the afternoon. The Giants scored half-way through the frame, but once again the Cardinals answered thanks to Nolan's third touchdown to make the score 28-14. The final score for Fisher came in the fourth quarter, with Chase tossing a 24 yard touchdown pass to
Ethan Curtis. The team secured the 35-20 victory thanks to a late penalty by Keystone.
Chase was the starting quarterback and finished the day going 10-for-18 for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed seven times for 30 yards and a score. Nolan was incredible on the day, rushing 32 times for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Curtis was the lead receiver, catching five balls for 85 yards and a score.
Joe Miscia was the tackle leader with nine total including tackle for loss.
Up next for the Cardinals is a home came against Wilkes University. The contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23 with a kick-off time of 4 p.m. The Cardinals will be celebrating Alumni Weekend.
