GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University field hockey team were on the road on Wednesday to take on SUNY Geneseo. The Cardinals were unable to overcome an early deficit and fall to the Knights, 5-2, and now maintain a 1-4 record.
Fisher fell behind 3-0 in the opening eight minutes of action.
Sam Choate began to turn up the pressure offensively with a shot on goal at the 8:13 mark, before later converting off of a penalty corner to get the team on the board. Neither team scored again until the third quarter, with the Knights making the score 5-1 at the 33:42 mark. A few minutes later, an assist by
Morgan Gregory allowed
Audrey Grieb to knock in her first goal of the year. The matchup remained scoreless and the Cardinals recorded a 5-2 loss.
Choate finished the game with seven shots, four of which were on goal.
Molly Fisher, Grieb and
Anna Melfi all tallied shots on target.
Sophia Trozzi started in goal and played the first quarter, recording six saves.
Senja Matson took over for the remaining three frames and finished the day with seven saves.
Up next for the Cardinals is a road matchup at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday, Sept. 17. The game is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
