PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team returned home as they hosted Utica University for games one and two of a three-game series. After scoring four runs in the bottom of the second, the Cardinals won game one, 5-2. In game two, a consistent offense helped push Fisher to a 5-3 win. After today's results, Fisher moves to an overall record of 26-12 and a conference record of 17-0.
Game One: Win, 5-2
Starting the scoring in the bottom of the second,
Dominic Guccia singled to third base, with
Brian Norsen scoring on an error. Two batters later,
Jake Crantz singled with a bunt, bringing home Guccia. Nearing the end of the inning,
Noah Campanelli doubled down the left field line, driving in two runs, the score 4-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Crantz singled down the left field line, bringing home
Ben Lavery. The game ended after seven innings, with the Cardinals winning 5-2.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Patrick McGuire pitched the first 6.0 innings. McGuire faced 22 batters, striking out four, walking two, allowing two hits and one run. With his performance, McGuire collected the win and moves to an overall record of 7-0.
Hunter Walsh pitched the final inning. Facing six batters, Walsh struck out three batters, and allowed three hits and one run, collecting the save.
Game Two: Win, 5-3
Scoring in the bottom of the second, Crantz homered down the left field line, the score 1-0. In the bottom of the second, Campanelli singled to left field, bringing home
Nick Lemire. Later, in the fifth, Lemire grounded out to second base, with Migliore scoring. Right after,
James Murphy flied out to center field, scoring Campanelli, Fisher leading 4-1. In the bottom of the eighth, Guccia homered to left field. The game ended after nine innings, with the Cardinals winning 5-3.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Connor McHugh pitched the first 5.0 innings. Facing 20 batters, McHugh struck out three, walked three, and allowed one hit and one run.
Anthony Lang pitched the next 3.0 innings, facing 12 batters, striking out four, and allowing two hits and one run.
Christian Maloney pitched the final inning, striking out one batter, and allowing one hit and one run.
Up next, Fisher host Utica University for game three of the series, as well as having their senior day. The game will take place on Sunday, May 7., with the first pitch at Dugan Yard set for 1:00 p.m.
