ONEONTA, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team competed on the road against Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon for their last regular season game. The Cardinals dominated throughout all 60 minutes to win by a final score of 17-4. Fisher now holds a 14-2 overall record and is 7-0 in conference play. The Hawks are now 10-4 and are 4-3 in conference play. Fisher heads into the Empire 8 tournament as the No. 1 seed.
As the first quarter began, Sydney Carpenter picked up a loose ball and got it into the offensive end. Carpenter found Courtney O'Dea cutting through the eight to tally the first goal of the game. Carpenter controlled the next draw and took it right to cage, 2-0 Cardinals lead. One minute later, Carpenter gets on the board once again, assisted by O' Dea. Fisher with another offensive possession off the draw work the ball around. O'Dea tallies another assist, this time to Hanna Kumpf who puts it away making it 4-0. Carpenter with her fourth draw control of the day so far, gets another Fisher possession. Tara Osterdale finds Kaley Griffin to make it five straight goals for Fisher. With 7:46 to go in the first, the Cardinals score three goals in 55 seconds, pushing the lead to 8-0. Kumpf with a free position attempt capitalizes to make it 9-0. Heading into the second quarter Fisher leads 9-1. Early in the second, Kumpf causes a Hawk turnover, leading to a Cardinals goal. O'Dea with the tally assisted by Fiorentino. The Hawks get their second goal of the day to make it 10-2. With 4:32 to go until halftime, Cara Landry puts one away, and just 35 seconds later Carpenter gets one, Fisher leads 12-2 at halftime.
As the third quarter began, Mykenzie Black finds Osterdale cutting, she gets her first of the day, Fisher up 13-2. 9:11 left in the third, Fisher with possession, Osterdale gets back-to-back goals, assisted by Carpenter. Black with a caused turnover picks up the loose ball and gets into the offense. Osterdale feeds Fiorentino for her second of the day. With 15 seconds left in the third, Zalla capitalizes on a free position shot to make it 16-2 heading into the fourth. The Hawks recorded two goals early in the fourth to make it 16-4. With 5:23 left in regulation, Carpenter finishes out the scoring to secure a Cardinals victory. Fisher wins at the end of regulation by a 17-4 final score.
Up next for the Cardinals, the team will host the Empire 8 Semi-Finals game at home on Wednesday May 3.
