PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team hosted their first home game of the season as they took on Keuka College. After the Cardinals went up 5-0 after five innings, Keuka scored four in the next two innings, however, that was not enough as Fisher scored two in the seventh, winning 7-4. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 8-10 on the year and 4-0 in Empire 8 play.
The beginning of the game started exactly how the Cardinals wanted, with
Ben Lavery doubling to center field in the bottom of the second, scoring
Dominic Guccia. In the bottom of the third,
Noah Campanelli doubled to left field, bringing home
Jack Migliore. Shortly after,
James Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to center field, with Campanelli scoring. The Cardinals' next runs came in the fifth inning, with Murphy hitting a home run and Migliore scoring. The sixth and seventh inning saw Keuka almost come back, collecting four runs. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Guccia singled to right field, bringing in two insurance runs. The game ended after nine innings, with the Cardinals winning 7-4.
Connor McHugh started for Fisher, pitching the first 5.2 innings. McHugh faced 21 batters and collected six strikeouts, while only giving up four hits.
Ethan Fulton pitched 0.2 innings, striking out one batter.
Jason Wall collected the save, pitching the final 2.2 innings, striking out two batters, and only giving up one hit and no runs.
Next up, the Cardinals continue their home stand against Keuka College as they host the Wolves for a double header at Dugan Yard. The games will take place on Monday, Apr. 3, with the first game set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
