AUBURNDALE, FL – The St. John Fisher University Baseball team continued their spring break with a matchup against Buena Vista University. The Cardinals started off hot, but were unable to hold on and eventually fell by a final score of 12-9. They now hold an overall record of 2-4 on the season.
The game kicked off with
Noah Campanelli,
Tanner Hodgson and
Ben Lavery all reached base, before
Brian Norsen hit a grand slam to left field to put the team ahead 4-0 in the blink of an eye. The Cardinals added runs in the first thanks to a wild pitch and a two run triple by Campanelli. After one inning, Fisher held a 7-0 advantage.
BVU chipped away at their deficit scoring run in the bottom of the first and third, before then putting up seven runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 9-7. In the top of the fifth inning, the Cardinals added a run on a sacrifice fly by
Jack Migliore that scored
Luke Duffy. Unfortunately, BVU added three in the bottom of the inning that stifled the Cardinal comeback.
Campanelli finished the day hitting 3-for-6 and tallied two RBI and two runs scored. Norsen, Murphy and Lemire all finished with multi-hit games.
The Cardinals continue their trip and take on Grove City College on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 1 p.m.
