PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team won their final game before winter break on Saturday, beating SUNY Cortland 85-57 at Manning & Napier Gym.
Fisher jumped to a 6-0 lead in the early minutes of the game and didn't look back, never trailing during the contest. The Dragons never closed the gap to less than four points, as the Cardinals extended their lead throughout the game by outscoring their opponent in every quarter.
Five Cardinals notched double-digit days, with sophomore guard Presleigh Brunner leading the way with a personal season-high 13 points. Junior guard Sidney Tomasso had 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds, while freshman guard Madeline Ramsgard scored 11 off the bench with five rebounds. Freshman forward Alexa Gibson and junior guard Emily McLaughlin had 10 points each.
Defensively, Gibson and senior forward Lauren Nawojski both notched two blocks, while senior guard Claire Kruszka had five steals. Kruszka also led the team in assists, with seven.
This was the Cardinals' first win against SUNY Cortland since the 1999-2000 season- they had lost their most recent meeting in 2010-11.
The Cardinals enter the winter break on a four-game winning streak, and return to action on New Year's Eve, when they travel to Springfield, Mass. for the first of two games on the campus of Springfield College. The tournament opener is set for 6:30 p.m. against Roger Williams University.
