PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were at home on Thursday to take on RIT in the second game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. After a close first half of action, the Cardinals scored 55 second half points to secures a 95-77 victory over the Tigers. Fisher moves to 2-2 on the year, while RIT now sit at 1-1.
The Cardinals fell behind 17-7 in the first half, but clutch free-throws by Dan Cook and a layup by
Maxwell Schneider and
Jack Foley, helped the team even the score at 17-17. The Tigers put an end to the run and two units began to trade scores all the way to half-time, where the Cardinals held a slim 40-38 lead.
In the second-half, Fisher quickly began to pull away.
Cole Thompson knocked down a three and after a dunk by Cook and layup by
Matt Lettko, the Cardinals were up by 7. Thompson hit another three with 15 minutes to play to give the team their first double-digit advantage. The Tigers continued to fight, but Layups by Schneider and
Brad Fowler, kept the teams lead at double-digits. As the game concluded,
Joshua Lopez hit the final points for the Cardinals to give them a 20 point lead, but a final RIT score put the Fisher victory at 95-77.
Cook was all over the stat sheet recording 20 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists, two blocks and one steal. Foley also had an efficient day shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from three to total 19 points, while adding 18 rebounds. Off the bench, Fowler contributed 15 points and four rebounds, while
Connor Williams added 13 points, four rebounds of his own and a block.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, when they take on University of Rochester at 8p.m. at home. It will be the conclusion of the Crosstown Shootout.
