PITTSFORD, N.Y. – With the first three games of Empire 8 play in the books, the St. John Fisher University field hockey team will play two straight out-of-conference games this week, hosting the University of Rochester on Wednesday, Oct. 11, before heading to Cortland for a rare Sunday event on Oct. 15.
The home game on Wednesday is set to start at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday's road game at Cortland will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The Cardinals are currently 6-5 on the year, including a 3-0 record in conference play. Last week, they defeated non-conference opponent Brockport, 3-1, before winning on Saturday at home against conference foe Utica, 6-1.
Historically Playing: Junior
Audrey Grieb had a day for the record books against Keuka, scoring four goals and two assists in the Cardinals' 6-1 victory. Her ten total points tied the school record for most points in a game, joining Bre Stocker (three times) and
Gianna Palma at the top of the leader board. Her four goals on Saturday are tied for third in school history in the single-game record books.
Historically Speaking: The Cardinals are 2-9 all-time against U of R and lost last season's matchup, 2-0, on the Yellowjackets' home field. The last Fisher win came on Oct. 4, 2017: a 3-2 overtime win at Growney Stadium.
Fisher is 1-8 all-time against SUNY Cortland, including a 4-0 loss last season. The lone Cardinals victory came on Sept. 13, 2016, at Growney Stadium.
Player to Watch: Junior
Emma Cooper had two assists last week, bringing her season total to 10. That leads the team and is second in the Empire 8 this season. Cooper is also second on the Cardinals in points (20) and is tied for third in goals (5).
