PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team finished the 2022 season off on a high note. Making it to the first round of the NCAA tournament, the team finished with an overall record of 10-9. The Cardinals ended 6-0 in conference play, defeating Nazareth College to win the 2022 Empire 8 Championship. The team faced six ranked opponents in the 2022 season and they look to carry this challenging schedule into the 2023 season. The USA Lacrosse Magazine released their preseason rankings and the Cardinals are receiving votes.
The Beginning: Fisher will travel to RIT on February 18 for a scrimmage to prepare for the 2023 season. The team's second scrimmage is on Saturday, February 25 at 2pm and will be against Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. The last time these two teams faced each other was in March of 2012. The season and home opener for Fisher will be against the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets on March 1 with a 4pm start time.
Spring Break: Fisher will travel to Colorado Springs to compete against Messiah University and Colorado College for their spring break games. They will face the Falcons on March 8 at 2pm and the Tigers on March 10 at 4pm.
Ranked Opponents: The Cardinals will play three, out of conference, ranked opponents back to back to back. On March 22, the team will travel to Cortland, NY and compete against no. 13 ranked SUNY Cortland. On March 29, Fisher will host no. 8 Williams Smith College, and on April 6th they will face no. 18 ranked SUNY Geneseo. All three games have a 4pm start time.
The Empire: Utica University will be the first Empire 8 match up of the season for the Cardinals. The will face the Pioneers on April 8 in Utica, NY at 1pm. The Empire 8 game to watch will be on April 15 as the team travels down the road to face cross-town rival, Nazareth College. Senior day will be played against Russell Sage College on April 22 at 1pm. This will be the team's final regular season home match up.
