PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team took on Keuka College at home for a Tuesday night Empire 8 matchup. The Cardinals had a powerful performance, winning 90-40 against the Wolves. After tonight, Fisher improves their record to 11-2 and 6-0 in conference play. They have now extended their win streak to seven games.
Sidney Tomasso came out strong for the Cardinals, scoring a three-pointer eight seconds into the game, followed by a good jumper 50 seconds later.
Kaitlyn Walker struck next for the Cardinals, scoring a good layup that put the Cardinals up 7-0. Fisher continued this run, scoring 17 unanswered points before Keuka responded with two good free-throws. After two good layups by
Emilia Johnson and Tomasso,
Claire Kruszka made a good three-pointer. Keuka responded with a three-pointer of their own before
Kelly Moravec made a three, putting the score at 29-5. Ke. Moravec finished the quarter strong, scoring a layup and another three-pointer, ending the quarter with the Cardinals leading 36-7.
Fisher started the second quarter as fast as the first, with Kruszka scoring a three-pointer 20 seconds in. More than a minute later,
Emily McLaughlin got on the scoreboard with a good jumper, pushing the Cardinals up 41-7. The two teams spent the next couple of minutes going back-and-forth, with
Lauren Nawojski scoring a good jumper, helping the Cardinals to a 50-12 lead. Three minutes went by before Nawojski scored the Cardinal's next points of the game, with a good layup, quickly followed by a good layup by
Katie Moravec. Six more points were scored by Fisher, with the Cardinals winning the half, 60-14.
Keuka started the second half strong, scoring five points before Ka. Moravec made a good free-throw three minutes in. The Wolves then made a three-pointer, with Ka. Moravec scoring a layup, the score at 63-22. Brunner and Tomasso made two good jumpers before Keuka responded with five points of their own. Kruszka scored a layup, with the final points coming at the buzzer, thanks to a good layup by
Tessa Schuey. The quarter ended with the Cardinals leading 73-27.
The final quarter started with Keuka scoring a three-pointer 18 seconds in. Ka. Moravec quickly responded with a good layup. Two minutes went by before
Emilia Johnson scored a good layup in the paint. The slow quarter saw another minute go by before Nawojski scored a good jumper, increasing the Cardinal's lead to 79-30. The next three minutes only saw four points, with two coming from a good layup made by
Julia Perales. The teams spent the rest of the quarter taking turns scoring points, with
Sydney Ottomano scoring a good jumper, securing the Cardinal's win at 90-40.
Kruszka led the game with 17 points, four assists and four steals. Tomasso also had an impressive performance, scoring 13 points, with four rebounds and three steals. Walker had a strong game, having eight rebounds, six points, and two steals. Brunner had five assists, six points, and played 18 minutes.
The Cardinals play again, back home, on Friday, January 20 for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Hartwick College.
