PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University football team will compete in Courage Bowl XVII this week at SUNY Brockport on Saturday night. The game marks the start of conference play for Fisher, who enters at 2-2 on the season and Brockport, who sits at 2-1.

Both teams are coming off wins from last week, as Fisher upset Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 3-0 and Brockport beat the University of Rochester (U of R) 23-3.

COURAGE BOWL HISTORY: This is the first time that the Golden Eagles host the Courage bowl since 2018. The Cardinals have been on a four game losing streak in the signature game, last winning in 2016 in a high scoring 42-28 contest. Fisher hopes to get their offense going, after scoring a total of 21 points in the last four Courage Bowls.

SCOUTING BROCKPORT: Brockport (2-1) returns home for the first time since beating Framingham State 27-7 on Sept. 3. In their powerful win against U of R, offense was the story. The Golden Eagles rushed for 177 yards over 37 attempts, good for 4.8 average yards per rush. The offense totaled 285 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per play. Brockport secured the victory behind success in the red zone, scoring 4-of-5 times and converting both opportunities on fourth down.

LINE BACKERS: The linebacker core of the Cardinals helped secure the win over RPI, holding RPI's offense to 218 total yards of offense. Senior Joe Miscia recorded 10 total tackles in the win, including eight assists. Ryan O'Dea and Kyle Vachon each hit a season-high in tackles, with six and five respectively.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Malachi Duvall rushed for 60 yards over 24 attempts, averaging 2.5 yards a carry. Through four games this season, Duvall is averaging 94.8 yards per game, well above his previous career high of 24.6, set last season. Duvall has hit new careers highs in total yards, touchdowns, and a new long of 83 yards in half as many games as last season.

As Fisher heads to Brockport, expect a big offensive week for the running back.
