PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team will head to Utica University for an Empire 8 matchup against the Pioneers on Friday, Sept. 23. The Pioneers have started their season going 7-5.
Fisher is coming off a weekend at home, where they went 3-1, to improve their record to 5-4. This matchup will be the start of conference play for both teams.
KIERA DEFENCE: Kiera Heartpence, the first year libero out of Burnt Hills Ballston Lake set a career high in digs this weekend against Mount Union, posting 19 digs. Heartpence has complimented her defense with eight serving aces this season as well. She has also been a recipient of the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
DON'T OVERLOOK BROOKE: From the service line, sophomore
Brooke Segars leads the team with 20 aces in 33 sets played. Segars has been dominant from the service line, recording 46 aces in 78 sets a season ago. In two seasons, Brooke is averaging .59 SA/S.
PLAYER TO WATCH: In two career games against Utica, senior outside hitter Lindsey Debonis has 16 kills, good for a .448 hitting percentage. Returning to action this past weekend, Debonis began to heat up, finishing the four games with 34 kills and 39.5 points. In the 2021 season, Debonis finished with the fourth most kills in the conference at 280.
